Electrical machines convert electrical energy into mechanical energy or viceversa. A fundamental distinction can be drawn between DC, AC and three-phase machines.
The machines used for training in electrical engineering are designed so that nearly all of the circuitry and drives found in industry, commerce and at home can be conveyed in a didactic fashion in hands-on training. Using the servo drive and braking system it is possible to easily determine all of the relevant data for electrical machines.

System Description of Electric Machines industrial line
The electric machines are designed so that almost all electric drives and circuits encountered in industry, commerce and in domestic circles, can be depicted in a practice-oriented manner to meet with the requirements of training. All machines are of typical industrial design mounted on an anti-vibration base-plate. The machines within one power category, all have the same shaft height to ensure a simple and stable coupling of the machines to subsidiary equipment using a rubber coupling sleeve. This produces a coupling without any backlash, and guarantees smooth running and a maximum transfer of power. When machine sets are assembled, the large terminal board (170mm x 140mm) always faces the operating side. All electrical connections to the machines (start and end of windings, connections to the temperature sensor, centrifugal switch, start-up relay and capacitors) are terminated at 4mm safety sockets and clearly identified according to DIN and IEC. The circuit symbols of the machines are clearly identified by their connection labels on the terminal board. This ensures a high degree of safety when assembling a circuit. The machines are protected against thermal overload by way of a temperature sensor, which is incorporated in all machines. All rotating parts can be protected by suitable covers and guards. The machines conform to the regulations of DIN VDE 0530 and protection type IP 20.
